Describe the cattle as they are.
the Cattle ! This is the time to build a reputation that
know your cattle! I.L.M. recommends weighing
calves and
prior to auction sale date or prior to listing them for private treaty sale. Follow the information below when describing your consignments:
EVEN-This means that there is less than 150 pounds
variation in weight from the light to the heavy end on YEARLING
Cattle. On CALVES and CALF WEIGHT YEARLINGS the
variation is less than 100 pounds!
UNEVEN-This means on yearling cattle the weight variance
is between 150 and 200 pounds. Most loads of feeder cattle are in
this category. On calves and calf weight cattle the variation is
100 to 150 pounds.
VERY UNEVEN-Yearling Cattle the weight variance is over
250 pounds! On calves and calf weight yearlings the weight
variance is over 150 pounds!
FRAME: Large Frame - Cattle that are mostly exotic
breeding and are slightly tall and longer bodied for their age.
They will carry a lot of bone and would expect to reach desirable
market
weight at 1200 pounds +.
MEDIUM FRAME - These cattle are of mostly English
breeding. They should be slightly tall and long bodied. These
cattle should be expected to produce a choice carcass at a live
weight of 1000-1200 pounds.
SMALL FRAME - Cattle of mostly English breeding. They
should be shorter bodied and not as tall as med. Frame cattle.
These cattle would produce a choice carcass at a live weight of
1000 pounds.
SHORT AGE - We do not use short age on yearling cattle!
Short Age will be used on calves only! It would be a calf that
has had an excellent home, in fleshy condition, and would still
be on his mother. If a calf has been weaned for 30-45 days, then
he would be listed as a weaned medium age calf.
MEDIUM AGE - This is a calf that has had an average home
since birth, He has NOT been starved, but he has NOT had above
average growing conditions.
LONG AGE - This is a calf that has had very poor growing
conditions sometime in his life! This would be an animal that is
over 18-20 months of age when going into a feedlot.
DEAD POOR: Do not try and sell these kind. BUY FEED !
THIN - These would be lightly fleshed due to possible poor
pasture conditions.
LIGHT MEDIUM - This is an animal in IDEAL stocker flesh.
These cattle would be strong and healthy and be carrying very
little fat.
MEDIUM - This has a very wide variance depending on the
season. This would be what we call average for the season.
HEAVY MEDIUM - These are cattle that are carrying a lot of
flesh. . They would be carrying above average flesh for the
season.
